Valencia – Barcelona: Los Che gunning for victory over Barcelona to extend lead at the top

La Liga Week 5
Wednesday September 21, 2011 (21.00 UK)

Estadio Mestalla, Valencia

Valencia will be optimistic of getting a result against Barcelona on Wednesday night as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table. The Mestalla is one of the grounds the Blaugrana have struggled in most of late, having won just two of their last six visits.

Barcelona are in fantastic form, coming off the back of an 8-0 victory at the weekend but their away form has been relatively poor in the league as they have taken just four victories from their last ten away matches.

Roberto Soldado will also be hoping to put a few past the European champions to gain an advantage over Lionel Messi in the top goalscorer charts as both players currently lead the ranks with five goals each.

Valencia (4-2-2-2):Guaita; Bruno, Rami, Victor Ruiz, Jordi Alba; Albelda, Banega; Pablo, Canales; Jonas, Soldado
League form: Last five home L-W-D-W-W

Barcelona (4-3-3): Valdes; Alves, Puyol, Mascherano. Abidal; Xavi, Thiago, Busquets; Fabregas, Villa, Messi
League form: Last five away D-L-D-W-D

Did you know…Barcelona lead the way in head-to-head results away to Valencia. Los Che have beaten the Catalans 29 times at the Mestalla whereas the Blaugrana have picked up 30 victories.
