Villarreal finally got their first league win of the season on Tuesday evening as they beat Real Mallorca 2-0, heaping even more pressure on the Islanders’ Coach Michael Laudrup in the process.

The Yellow Submarine were well on their way to victory inside the first ten minutes as Giuseppe Rossi opened the scoring in the eighth minute as the former Manchester United man slotted past the on-rushing Dudu Aouate following a good pass by Juan Catala.

Less than ten minutes into the second period, the hosts doubled their lead, this time through Rossi’s strike partner Nilmar as the Brazilian cleverly rounded Aouate and finished with ease following Borja Valero’s through ball.

After Villarreal’s second goal, the Islanders registered a few chances, one in particular from Alejandro Alfaro forced a good save from Diego Lopez, but the former Sevilla man was unable to inspire any kind of comeback and Villarreal climbed to 12th after their first win of the new season.

Villarreal (4-1-2-1-2): Diego Lopez; Mario, Zapata, Musacchio, Catala; Bruno; Borja Valero (Camunas 72), Cani (Senna 63); De Guzman; Rossi, Nilmar (Ruben 82)
