Villas-Boas defends Kalou-Lampard substitution

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is not disappointed with his decision to substitute Frank Lampard with Salomon Kalou in the game against Valencia. Lampard had scored the only goal of the match for Chelsea and looked to have sealed the three points, but as soon as he left the field Kalou handled the ball in the penalty area awarding Valencia a lifeline, which they took to level the scores.

However according to the Daily Mail, Villas-Boas was convinced the substitution was the right decision, stating that conceding a penalty is part and parcel in the game of football. “I think it was the right choice bearing in mind what we were looking at, which was the fact that Valencia were coming out on the left side and doing a lot of two against ones against Bosingwa,” the manager contested.
