Abramovich buy-out of Stamford Bridge to be rejected

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s proposed buyout of Stamford Bridge is set to be rejected by a committee of Chelsea supporters. The Chelsea Pitch Owners Association (CPO) is made up of fans who have bought a share in Stamford Bridge. The CPO was formed in 1993 initially to protect Stamford Bridge from being sold to property developers.

Abramovich has written to around 12,000 supporters and members of the CPO according to the Daily Mirror, requesting them to sell their share in Stamford Bridge to him so plans can go ahead to move Chelsea into a new stadium, reported to hold a capacity of 65,000 people.

The Russian oil tycoon has offered what is believed to be £1.2million for the CPO shares with the promise that Chelsea’s new home shall be no more than 3 miles away from Stamford Bridge if moved to before 2020.
