Accrington to offer Tranmere uncontested goal in rearranged JPT clash

Following the unforeseen postponement of Accrington Stanley’s second round Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie with Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday the Lancashire side have offered the visitors an uncontested goal in the rearranged fixture.

Les Parry’s side were leading 2-1 when Tom Bender suffered what was thought to be a very serious head injury when he collided with his own goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere forward Lucas Akins.

Bender laid motionless on the pitch for 30 minutes as an ambulance was called to the Crown Ground.

The decision was eventually taken to abandon the match when it was agreed that a number of players were incredibly shaken up by the incident.

Bender has since been discharged from hospital after it was revealed he had escaped with just a serious concussion with a date being set for the replayed fixture next Wednesday.

The offer is a great act of sportsmanship by the League Two side who are obviously keen to uphold the spirit of the game.

Stanley have also announced that all tickets for the game will be priced at £2 with Under 16s being admitted for free.
