Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has indicated that he will be looking to bring new faces to St Mary’s in the coming months to help maintain his side’s push for promotion.
Southampton have made a fantastic start to the current season and already sit top of the Championship table after 11 games. With no clear signs of their form wavering, Saint’s chief Atkins will be looking to ensure that this remains the case:
“This is already a strong squad with a lot of talented players but any manager must always keep an eye open for ways to improve things and to cope with the inevitable problems of injuries and suspensions.”
Adkins comments came after his side were held 1-1 at home by fellow promotion chasers Derby County, and despite what some may argue were two points dropped given their recent fine form, the ex Scunthorpe boss was overall pleased with his team’s performance:
“I thought we controlled the game from the moment Derby took the lead after two minutes and we could easily have had two or three goals before the break. In the end we let the chances go but it was still a very satisfying performance in a tremendous atmosphere in front of more than 30,000 fans.”
