Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has returned to the club following a loan spell at West Ham, the club’s official website reports.
Almunia spent a month at Upton Park on a emergency loan deal following an injury to Hammers goalkeeper Robert Green. Green returned to action this weekend in West Ham’s win over Leicester and that allowed Almunia to move back to Arsenal. The Spaniard faces stiff competition for a place in the Gunners first-team with Polish keepers Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski ahead of Almunia in the keeper ranks. Almunia was once Gunners number one, but a series of errors shut the door on his chances and he looks set for a spell in the reserves. Almunia could make a move away from Arsenal in the summer with a whole host of Championship clubs interested in the services of the goalkeeper.
