Birmingham striker Wood extends loan at St Andrews

On loan Birmingham City striker Chris Wood has agreed to extend his stay at the club by a further three months.

Wood, who has been snapped up from fellow midlanders West Brom, has been in scintillating form for the Blues netting eight goals in eleven appearances and has expressed his delight in securing the extension which will keep him at St Andrews until January:“I’m very pleased the loan has been extended. I’ve settled in really well here and all of the lads – who are a great bunch – have really taken to me.

“I’m very pleased to have scored the goals that I have but it’s only the start. Together we have to keep putting in the performances and picking up the results to move up the league.”

City, who currently sit in 17th position in the Championship but still have two games in hand due to European commitments, will be hoping the New Zealand international can maintain his fine form as they look to make a for a push for promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt. Manager Chris Hughton was equally delighted at tying the 19 year old down, stating:

“We are delighted the loan has been extended as it’s one that has worked very well for the player and for the club, this has continued our good working relationship with West Brom.

“Hopefully Chris can continue in the same vein as he has done so far.”

Birmingham’s next league match is against big spending Leicester, who they face a week on Sunday.
