Bolton boss Coyle slams Ayre proposal

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has dismissed the Liverpool managing director’s proposal for clubs to be able to sell their own foreign TV rights. This week Ian Ayre claimed that the ‘big clubs’ should be able to do this so they can compete with the European elite. However there are major concerns that this change of format for TV rights would kill off competition in the Premier League.

Coyle refused to be drawn into an argument about Ayre’s apparent criticism of Bolton being unappealing to a foreign audience. He did however dispute the validity of Ayre’s words.

“It needs 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs to vote for it,” Coyle told the Daily Mail. “Now a lot of clubs in this league are a lot of things, but they’re not stupid. The bottom line is we have the best product in the world, and it is made up of 20 teams. That’s why it is what it is.”
