Brighton & Hove Albion have pulled off a coup before tonight’s clash with West Ham with the capture of Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper on a one-month loan deal.
The 36-year-old has seen himself frozen out at St James Park following the signing of Charlton goalkeeper Rob Eliot and has travelled 345 miles to the south coast in the hope of securing first-team football.
Manager Gus Poyet was delighted with the capture when he spoke to the club’s official website: “Steve
“He will use that experience to help the defensive players and the goalkeepers, and help us get back to the defensive form we showed earlier in the season.”
The Seagulls haven’t tasted victory since the 10th September and after initially leading the division have slipped into mid-table. Harper could make his debut later subject to Premier League and Football League clearance and could face a huge task on his hands trying to keep out a Hammers side that are the third highest away goalscorers in the Championship season.
