Brighton sign Leeds striker Billy Paynter on loan

Leeds United striker Billy Paynter has joined Brighton and Hove Albion on a loan deal until January.

The striker has been on the periphery of the first team at Elland Road this season and manager Simon Grayson has recently indicated that he would be willing to sanction a short term move in order to give the ex Swindon player first team football.

With a number of other Championship and League One clubs reportedly interested, Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has moved quickly to secure the transfer and will be hoping Paynter can reignite a promising campaign that has been wavering in recent games – Brighton having fallen to 13th in the table after their most recent 1-0 loss to promotion chasing West Ham on Monday evening.

27 year old Painter will now join up with fellow new signings Gonzalo Jara and Steve Harper and will be hoping to make his debut against Birmingham in this weekend’s round of fixtures.
