Bruce backs Man City to challenge for title

Former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce believes that Manchester City are genuine contenders for the Premier League title, Yahoo Sport reports.

The now Sunderland manager spent nine years at Old Trafford under the tutelage of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and in all that time, Bruce says that City were never considered as a main derby rival. The two Manchester sides meet on Sunday and Bruce says City have every chance of upstaging their old rivals.

Bruce said: ‘They have to be (title contenders) now, there’s no question about that. In the past, when I was playing, no disrespect to Man City, the big derby was Liverpool. But certainly now, the noisy neighbours are making great strides. It should be a fantastic game’.

United have only lost once against City at Old Trafford in the last 25 derbies and Bruce believes that City can pose a threat to that record.
