Chelsea accused of preventing stadium protests

Following yesterday’s Barclays Premier League clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge yesterday, fans have complained that the club stifled any attempts of supporters and Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) members to protest against Roman Abramovich’s proposed stadium move.

The CPO were refused to bring in banners supporting their case for not selling their shares in Stamford Bridge before the match. The club were apparently very wary of the game being televised live.

Fan Mark Williams smuggled in his banner and stewards tried to remove it before warning him that his protest would be studied on CCTV.

‘They were quite aggressive. They demanded I unroll the banner then read it and said, “We won’t have that kind of banner in the ground. They seemed very aware that the game was on television.’
