Chelsea keen on versatile Vitor Gomes

Andre Villas-Boas has assigned scouts to go and watch the versatile Portuguese midfielder Vitor Gomes, according to the Daily Mirror.

Gomes plays for Rio Ave in Portugal, who are not one of the big hitters in the Bwin Liga, but Villas-Boas’ time at FC Porto and as a scout has given him a greater knowledge than most of that league.

Gomes can play in a defensive midfield capacity and also at right-back, which are two areas which The Blues are keen to strengthen. This would provide competition for Jose Bosingwa and Branislav Ivanovic, and at an estimated value of £5million, it could prove a fair price to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year old has been capped at Under 20 and Under 21 level for Portugal, and it appears that already Chelsea have been keeping an eye on him.
