Chelsea ‘keeper and De Gea replacement Courtois happy to extend stay at Atletico Madrid

Chelsea-owned goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has declared he has no fear in replacing David De Gea at Atletico Madrid and that he would be happy to extend his loan stay in the Spanish capital.

The 19-year-old Belgian has impressed between the sticks since arriving at Atleti on a year-long loan from Chelsea and told Radio Onda Cero of what it has been like to step into De Gea’s place at the club.

“I know that De Gea is a very good goalkeeper. It is hard to start in this team because there is pressure fro the fans, but I have no fear. I will help the team to reach the top four.”

The youngster then went on to indicate that his happiness in Madrid could see him extend his loan spell with the club into a second season.

“I love playing [at the Estadio Vicente Calderon]. I think we are playing well, but we have problems scoring.”

“Chelsea bought me, but I am at Atletico because I wanted to be. I’m here for just a year, but if I want a second year it is possible.”
