Clarke: Time for Gerrard Liverpool comeback

Steve Clarke, Liverpool’s first-team coach, believes that Steven Gerrard needs to push on for his return after injury, and there is no time like the present. The Red’s talisman has been sidelined since March with a groin injury that kept him out for longer than first feared.

Fabio Capello has not selected Gerrard for England’s squad to face Montenegro on Firday due to his lack of first team football recently, which gives him ample opportunity to step up his recovery in time for a return to the starting line-up.

Clarke told “For Steven it’s just a progression. He’s coming back from a long-term injury and we’ll try to treat him as cautiously and carefully as we can. Obviously there will be a time when he is going to have to push on – and I think this is the time now.”
