Darren Carter hopeful of earning Brighton contract

Former West Brom midfielder Darren Carter is hoping to secure a deal with Championship high-flyers Brighton after scoring on his debut in a 2-0 reserve win over Bournemouth.

The 27-year-old has been without a club since the summer after his contract with relegated side Preston North End came to an end.

Carter had been on trial for two months with home-town club Birmingham City since early August but with the Blues still yet to make a decision on what their next move will be Carter turned his attentions to impressing Seagulls boss Gus Poyet.

The midfielder is determined to prove his worth and told The Argus he feels he has a lot to offer the club: “I’m very confident. I wouldn’t be down here, wasting my time or the gaffer’s time, if I didn’t feel I could make a big contribution. I’ve always been an ambitious person anyway and I’ve still got a lot of things I want to achieve in my career.

“All I need is an opportunity, that is all I am looking for. I have been working my socks off where ever I have been, especially this year, to just get an opportunity to prove to people I’ve got it at this level and higher.”
