Del Nido weighs in on kick-off scheduling debate, promises new contract for Javi Varas

Sevilla’s Jose Maria del Nido has again spoken out against the League, this time to criticise the scheduling of kick-off times across League weekends.

As Marca report, the Sevilla President gave his view on the much-debated issue that includes 12 noon kick-offs that have so far been played in very high temperatures and the regular timetabling of games that sees them stretched across more than half a dozen different kick-off times across the weekend.

“Television, with the approval of the League, select times that do not convince us. It is an issue that we must speak with the Presidents at the League’s headquarters because it could end with stadiums with no fans. Without fans in stadiums, football is not the same.”

Del Nido also went on to confirm talks are set to being with goalkeepers Javi Varas over a new contract.

“There is a scheduled meeting with his representative but we are in no hurry. It was at the behest of Sevilla, because we understand that there has been sufficient merit.

“We have talked about a long-term contract and that he receives an adequate salary. We are all seeing how he is growing in Sevilla’s goal. He has been performing remarkably. Javi Varas was a member of the Gol Norte (a section of the club’s north stand Biris supporters’ group) so no wonder he wants to renew for life. May it be so.”
