In the first of a weekend of derby games in the Barclays Premier League, Liverpool visit Goodison Park in the early 12.45 kick-off on Saturday.
Liverpool have returned to winning ways in their last two games against Brighton and Wolves, after disappointing defeats to Tottenham and Stoke City, and it comes just in time. Despite those two defeats, the Reds have picked-up ten points from their first six games, and currently sit in fifth position, three points ahead of their rivals who have a game in hand.
The Toffees won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last season with goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta, and it is the Australian midfielder who much pre-match attention will be focussed on, as he tries to recover from a leg injury picked-up against Manchester City last weekend. If he does make it, he may be playing behind Louis Saha, who has been inching towards the first team in recent weeks.
For Liverpool there is the prospect of a long-awaited return for captain Steven Gerrard, although he is likely to be on the bench, meaning Charlie Adam keeps his place in midfeld. One position to watch will be right midfield, where Dirk Kuyt is pushing for a starting place ahead of Jordan Henderson.
Team line-ups (to be confirmed)
Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Jagielka, Distin, Rodwell, Fellaini, Osman, Coleman, Cahill, Saha
Liverpool: Reina, Enrique, Carragher, Kelly, Skrtel, Henderson, Downing, Lucas, Adam, Suarez, Carroll.
