Fletcher reveals pain of derby defeat

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has spoken of the hurt the United players are feeling following the defeat to Manchester City, ESPN Soccernet reports.

Fletcher scored a consolation goal for United in their 6-1 loss to their local rivals and knows that however much the fans are hurting, the players are feeling the exact same. The Scotland captain believes that the United squad will remember this day and the scoreline will spur them on to bigger and better things.

‘We realise how much this result has hurt the fans and how they’ll go to work on Monday and get a lot of stick, but the players are hurting just as much. I said to the lads in the dressing room afterwards that we need to remember how it feels to lose a game like this, but to remember that no medals are handed out now’, Fletcher said.

The defeat was United’s first loss since April 2010 at Old Trafford and breaks a run of 19 consecutive home wins in the league.
