City plan on making wholesale changes to the side that thrashed Manchester Utd 6-1 on Sunday, and Hargreaves would have seen it as a perfect game to continue his rehabilitation.
Unfortunately for Hargreaves he suffered a calf strain in training, but City are keen to stress that the injury is not a break down or a recurrence of previous long-term injuries.
City’s assistant manager David Platt said, “Owen is pretty much there or thereabouts at the moment. It’s the kind of niggle that wouldn’t arouse comment in any other player, and we fully expect Owen to be back training in a day or so” added Platt.
