Ahead of Liverpool’s big derby against Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime, Red’s owner John W. Henry has revealed that Kenny Dalglish was not his first choice to take over the manager’s vacancy following Roy Hodgson’s departure.
Although Dalglish was only supposed to be kept on until the end of last season on an interim basis, he did enough to convince the Liverpool hierarchy to land the post permanently.

“Initially our blueprint was for a younger manager, because you want to have long-term stability in as much of the staff as possible. But it became obvious that Kenny was the right man to lead the club, and in no way did we feel pressured into appointing him”.
