Kalou wants to sign new Chelsea deal

Soloman Kalou is hopeful of agreeing a new deal to extend his five year stay at Stamford Bridge, the Fulham Chronicle reports. Following his 73rd minute strike in the 5-0 drubbing of Genk, the Ivorian declared his desire to put pen to paper.

“I want to stay, I want to be here. I like Chelsea. I’ve had a fantastic five seasons here. Chelsea are looking forward to the future and I’m still a young player and my future can be here.”

Many had high hopes for Kalou following his arrival from Feyenoord in May 2006, but despite displaying glimpses, he has often been an inconsistent performer. The significant contributions he has made have primary been from the bench, something which has frustrated the 2005 Dutch Football Talent of the Year winner.

“That’s what every player wants, game time, but if you’re not playing every weekend, how are you going to improve yourself?”

However, with the arrival of the talented Juan Mata and the emergence of Daniel Sturridge, Kalou may well find his chances of a starting place as limited as ever before.
