Lampard backs Sturridge to break through for England

England’s experienced central midfielder Frank Lampard has given his full backing to Chelsea team mate Daniel Sturridge, claiming the youngster is the man to replace Wayne Rooney during the strikers suspension following his red card against Montenegro.

Rooney has been told he will not start another game until his Euro 2012 suspension is over, so Capello can experiment ahead of their opening game of the tournament.

Sturridge may even make his bow for next month’s friendly against World Champion’s Spain, at Lampard is full of support for the former Manchester City man.

“There is no doubt Daniel will break through at international level. It’s just a matter of when it happens for him,” Lampard told ESPN. “He can be a great player for Chelsea and for England. He has skill, unbelievable speed off the mark and he can finish. What more can you ask?”
