Leeds striker Billy Paynter set for League One loan switch

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson will consider letting forward Billy Paynter leave on loan as long as it isn’t at a fellow Championship side.

The 27-year-old last appeared for the Whites in the opening day defeat to Southampton but thanks to a number of injuries and the flourishing form of Ross McCormack he has been unable to regain his place.

This has prompted a number of interested parties to enquire if the former Swindon striker is available for a potential loan switch.

Grayson is open to the idea but told the club’s official website he will only allow Paynter to join a side in another division: “I’ve had a call from a League One team about Billy. We’ll decide if it’s the right thing to do.

“One thing for certain is that we wouldn’t consider Billy joining one of our rivals in the Championship, so any deal would have to suit all parties.

“He wants to play games, which he isn’t doing at the moment and I’ve no problems with letting him out, but until we decide properly there’s nothing doing.”
