Liverpool owner apologises to Bolton’s Gartside

Liverpool Owner John W. Henry has apologised to Bolton and their owner Phil Gartside over derogatory remarks made about The Trotters by Liverpool’s Managing Director Ian Ayre.

The Telegraph has revealed that Ayre’s suggestion that Bolton Wanderers are an unattractive proposition for foreign viewers of the Barclays Premier League was deemed worth of an apology by Henry.

It came to light under Ayre’s recent controversial proposals that ‘bigger’ Premier League teams should be able to sell their television rights independently and that the money from television the Premier League receives should not be distributed evenly amongst the 20 clubs.

Ayre was quoted as saying: “If you’re in Kuala Lumpur there isn’t anyone subscribing to ESPN to watch Bolton, or if they are it’s a very small number. The large majority is subscribing because they want to watch Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal.”
