Man City made summer move for Tottenham midfielder Sandro

The Daily Star reports that Manchester City failed with a summer bid for resilient Tottenham midfielder Sandro.

Sandro impressed during Tottenham’s adventurous Champions League campaign last year and it would appear he was City’s first choice before the club eventually went on to sign Owen Hargreaves.

The bid was rejected by Tottenham with boss Harry Redknapp comparing him to former City midfielder Patrick Vieira and Brazilian legend Socrates. Redknapp indicated he could play a key role in their crunch clash with Arsenal today, saying: “Sandro coming back from his long-term injury gives us strength. He’s a fantastic player so we look strong.” Redknapp’s omission of Sandro on Thursday against Shamrock makes it likely the Brazilian will feature.
