Man City open de Jong contract talks

Roberto Mancini is eager for midfielder Nigel de Jong to sign a new contract.

De Jong’s current contract ends in 2013, but Mancini is keen to extend it and opened talks a year ago.

These talks broke down however as De Jong, who is currently earning £90,000 a week, wanted parity with the club’s highest earners such as Carlos Tevez and Yaya Toure.

“Nigel is continuing to talk about his contract with the club,” Mancini told the Manchester Evening News.

“I hope that I hope we can close this deal with Nigel – in the next week, in the next month, I don’t know – but Nigel has two years left on his contract.”
