Man Utd back to winning ways in hard-fought victory over Everton

Manchester United got back to winning ways thanks to a Javier Hernandez goal against Everton, the Mexican forward pouncing on Patrice Evra’s driven cross to put United in front. And despite a bombardment of Everton pressure, United held on to secure a win.

United were slightly fortunate to get all three points especially with Leighton Baines hitting the crossbar from a free-kick and Louis Saha unable to find his shooting boots against his former side. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be delighted that his side got back on track with a victory after last weekend’s debacle at home to Manchester City.

Ferguson told the BBC: ‘It was a hard game and we expected that, because every time you come to Everton, the crowd get behind them and show that enthusiasm. In the second half, we defended well and that was the pleasing aspect for me’.
