Man Utd defender Ferdinand linked with Roma move

Italian side Roma are preparing a shock loan move for Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand, according to The Daily Mail.

The Serie A side are monitoring the progress of Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez and are also interested in bringing Ferdinand to Italy for the twilight years of his career. Roma have stuttered so far under new boss Luis Enrique and are preparing the launch of a sensational loan bid for the former England captain to bring his experience to the Giallorossi.

Ferdinand has been injury prone for the last couple of seasons and with the emergence of young talents in Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, many wonder if the 32 year old’s time at Old Trafford is drawing to a close. The American investment group backing Roma have paid big money in the summer to bring players to the Stadio Olimpico and will pay huge wages to bring the defender.

Reports in Italy suggest that England general manager Franco Baldini, who also holds an executive role with Roma, will do the main negotiations with Ferdinand and a move could definitely be on the cards with Ferdinand looking to spend time in Italy to pursue a different football culture.
