Man Utd defender Jones to get England starting place against Montenegro

England manager Fabio Capello is set to give Manchester United defender Phil Jones his England debut in Friday’s Euro 2012 Group G qualifier away to Montenegro, according to reports from the BBC.

The £16m summer signing from Blackburn has impressed with his performances for Utd so far this season, and is putting pressure both at club level and internationally on Rio Ferdinand, who was not called up for this tie due to a lack of fitness.

Jones, 19, is set to get the nod ahead of Gary Cahill, due to the number of goals his Bolton side have been conceding, 21 in seven Premier League ties, and will partner Chelsea’s John Terry.
