Pogba eyes Man Utd first-team place

Manchester United youngster Paul Pogba is determined to earn a place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting XI and become a key player for the Premier League champions.

The highly rated French midfielder has impressed in United’s youth teams and the reserves and he made his debut for the senior side against Leeds United in the Carling Cup last month.

The 18-year-old revealed that Ferguson refused to send him out on loan earlier this season because he feels he could feature more prominently for the club this season.

He told Manchester Evening News: “A possible loan to a Championship club was discussed early in the season, but Sir Alex said he did not want me to leave. That makes me want to prove he was right in trusting me. I am proud of what I’m doing. I’m getting closer to the first team and I hope to progress further this season.”
