Portsmouth defender Greg Halford believes the only thing missing from their squad is a genuine goal-poacher.
Pompey lost 1-0 to Ipswich on Tuesday night and despite conjuring up 17 shots were unable to find a way past David Stockdale.
Their striking options were bolstered by the summer captures of Luke Varney, Benjani and Erik Huseklepp but they have so far failed to find their goalscoring touch to leave the side in 18th place in the Championship.
Halford spoke to the club’s official website following the defeat: “That
“To stop a home team from playing is very promising and with that little bit more concentration in the final third – which we need to work on – we would have won.
“But our all-round play was good and we can take a lot of confidence from that. Maybe we need that goalscoring poacher – a Billy Sharp kind of player who gets 20 goals just in the six-yard box. If we can add that player to our side then I think it completes our squad.”
