Redknapp: David Luiz could get Villas-Boas the sack with his defending

Former Tottenham and Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp believes that David Luiz’s defending could get manager Andre Villas-Boas the sack.

Luiz was at the centre of attention in Chelsea’s defeat to QPR on Sunday when he gave away the penalty that proved to be the winning goal, and Sky Sports pundit Redknapp, speaking in his Daily Mail column, believes the Brazilian could be too much of a ‘luxury’ for Blues boss Villas-Boas.

“David Luiz is a modern phenomenon; he’s a defender who doesn’t really like to defend! He’s terrific on the ball and easy on the eye.

“I’m not sure he is cut out to be a Premier League defender. That is the third penalty he has conceded in his brief Chelsea career.

“Luiz needs to move to midfield, because defending like that can get a manager the sack.”
