Redknapp backs Bale for Olympic team

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has welcomed the opportunity for Gareth Bale to compete in the Olympics for Great Britain, The Guardian reports.

The Welsh winger is in line for a call up to the side, managed by England under 21 boss Stuart Pearce, and Redknapp has expressed his delight at the decision. Other top flight managers are worried about their players going to the Olympics, but the Spurs manager believe it would be an honour for his players to take part. Redknapp said: ‘If that’s what he (Bale) wants, then I wouldn’t stop him playing. I think it’s a great honour for anyone to play in an Olympic Games. It must be fantastic’.
