Redknapp has sympathy for out-of-favour Defoe

Harry Redknapp has spoken of the hard decision he has to make regarding Jermain Defoe’s future in the starting line-up at Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports reports.

Defoe has netted five times in his last seven league appearances, but is expected to miss out on a starting berth thanks to the impressive form and partnership of Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael van der Vaart. Redknapp has expressed his sympathies for Defoe, who he has managed at three different clubs, and believes that Defoe has to be patient and wait for his chance.

Redknapp said: “It’s almost unfair that he’s not in the team but there is nothing we can do about that. He has been in magnificent form and he can’t get in my team at the moment. He was almost unplayable in training this week, but Rafa has scored five in the last four.

Jermain is a sensible lad. I am sure he will look at it and he will see how well Rafa is playing, and Adebayor too. If you look at Rafa’s goal scoring record it’s incredible. He is just a great finisher,” Redknapp added.
