Sheffield United’s Nick Montgomery laments ‘immature’ Chris Lines

Sheffield United’s longest serving player Nick Montgomery has hit out at Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Chris Lines following Sunday’s fiercely contested Steel City derby.

Montgomery was not only unimpressed with Lines’ comments in the tunnel following the match but also condemned his use of the social networking site Twitter.

The 25-year-old Owls midfielder tweeted after the final whistle: “Great comeback today. Shows the spirit we have… deserved all three points #chances. But we’ll take the point… dominated for long periods.”

These comments seemed to particularly rile Montgomery who spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday: “I’m disappointed with his comments. He came out with a disrespectful comment coming down the tunnel that I heard and found it pretty immature.”

Montgomery added: “To go on Twitter after the game saying he should have beaten us, I’m sure that the occasion just got to him.

“I don’t think he’s ever played higher than League One and maybe emotions took over him.”
