Sven assures Leicester loan pair that they remain in his plans

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has re-assured both Matt Oakley and Tom Kennedy that they remain in his plans despite being sent out on loan from the club.

The pair, who are currently plying their trade at Exeter and Peterborough respectively, may be behind a number of big-name summer signings in the pecking order but the Foxes boss told the Leicester Mercury that getting regular first-team football is doing them the world of good: “They have not played in the first team since the start of the season so this is important for them. They need to play football. They are still our players so it is important they play.

“Yes, they still feature in the plans. I am sure Matt Oakley would go into the team tomorrow, as a right-back or midfielder, and do a good job. He is one of our fittest players. If you did a running test now he would win it.

“He needs to play football. It is not good for him to be training every day and not even sitting on the bench. It will be very good for him now.”

Leicester currently occupy 8th place in the Championship following a thumping 4-0 win over 3rd place Derby County in Saturday’s late kick-off. A result that edges them closer to the play-off places as they attempt to justify their pre-season billing of promotion favourites.
