Van der Vaart reveals injury fears

Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he was ‘scared’ of the pioneering treatment that has seen him return to his goal-scoring best.

The Spurs marksman damaged a hamstring in their 5-1 home defeat to Manchester City in August, but instead of opting for the usual treatment, he flew home to Holland for a revolutionary approach which involved working the damaged muscle rather than resting it.

Speaking in the Express he said: “It was a big injury. In the beginning you have to be quite careful and you feel scared a little bit. But now I hope it stays like this.”

Since returning from injury, the Dutchman has netted five times, and has been instrumental in guiding Spurs to fifth place in the Premier League table.
