Vermaelen back as Arsenal shuffle pack for Bolton clash

Arsenal could welcome back the return of Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen as they entertain Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round of the Carling Cup, Sky Sports reports.

The Gunners have already beaten Bolton this season at the Emirates Stadium and that came in a 3-0 victory over the Trotters last month. Arsenal have been on a magnificent run of form since then, winning six of their past seven in all competitions, and will look to extend that by dispatching Bolton and marching on to the quarter finals.

Wenger will use the competition to blood his youngsters once again and starts are expected for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ryo Miyachi and Francis Coquelin. Keeping one eye on the weekend’s big derby fixture with Chelsea, Wenger will rest a heap of first team stars, but could bring in Vermaelen as he makes his return from a two-month injury lay-off.

Arsenal still have key players missing with injury, but should have the talent to dispose of Owen Coyle’s men and march one step closer to a potential first trophy in six years.
