Villas-Boas compares Sturridge to Porto star

Ahead of Daniel Sturridge’s return to The Reebok Stadium for Chelsea’s match against Bolton, his manager Andre Villas-Boas has compared the young Englishman to FC Porto striker Hulk. It is an important period in the striker’s career thus far with a first England call up potentially around the corner with England facing Montenegro on Friday.

Hulk played for Villas-Boas in his incredible treble winning FC Porto side last season scoring 36 goals in all competitions, and the young manager recognises some of his traits in Sturridge.

“He offers me a little bit of the characteristics that I had with Hulk when I was at Porto. You have pacey players but, in the end, what is more important is that, when you arrive to the ball, being able to do something with it and control it. He’s a player who offers that. His abilities have been showing since last year,” he told Sky Sports
