Wenger gives ok to more tackles

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has agreed with calls from managers for referees to allow more tackles during the course of a game, the Sunday Mirror reports.

Wenger’s side have been on the end of some horror tackles in recent seasons, including one from today’s opponents Stoke that put Aaron Ramsey out for a considerable period of time.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis had called for referees to be more lenient earlier in the week and the Arsenal manager has echoed his sentiments, saying that tackling is a technique and players who play to hurt are cowards.

Wenger said: ‘I personally like the players who are brave, but with the right spirit. I think the bravest players I met were physical, but didn’t hurt people. Tackling is punished too much. Tackling is a technique, and if done well, with the desire not to hurt, it is fantastic’.
