Wenger: van Persie must be rested

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that he must rest star striker Robin Van Persie to stop any more injuries, The Daily Mirror reports.

The Dutchman is in scintillating form so far this season and has amassed 28 goals in 35 games in the calendar year. Wenger is worried about his notorious injury record and may rest the 28 year old for this weekend’s fixture with Stoke City. Wenger said: ‘This season, Robin has certainly been the best. On Monday, I decide to rest him and on Friday, I always decide to play him. It is always a difficult decision to make at the moment, but I will have to do it soon’.

Van Persie could also lay claim to being the top striker in the Premier League, his manager believes, and the Dutchman could be on course for this season’s Golden Boot.
