Arsene Wenger was reportedly chasing Croatian star Luka Modric before he signed for North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to eatsleepsport.
“We played against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League [in August 2006] and he played in the same team as Eduardo against us” said the French manager. “At the time we had [Cesc] Fabregas, not a bad player. But we were interested in Modric.”
Juande Ramos then brought the playmaker to White Hart Lane for a fee of £16.5m and he has since gone on to prove himself a very capable Premier League player. The 26-year-old is attracting more recent interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
