Anelka told he can leave Chelsea as Blues eye new striker

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has told Nicolas Anelka he is free to leave Stamford Bridge in January according to The Independent, to make way for the transfer of another forward to the club.

The Portuguese would like to add another three players to his squad in the next window, following their recent run of poor form.

Anelka is said to be disappointed at the news, but there is a lot of interest in the 32 year old Frenchman. He has been linked with a big money move to Chinese team Shanghai Shensua, as well as a loan move to AC Milan and potential transfers to the Arab Emirates, the Far East and Russia.

Chelsea are looking to reduce their squads average age as the have a collection of footballers approaching 30 years old if not older, which is not ideal for Villas-Boas’ high intensity expansive style of football.
