Arsene Wenger is looking to provide backup for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny by signing England Under 21 stopper Jack Butland, according to The
Arsenal have been scouting the youngster who is on loan at Cheltenham from Birmingham City and the club are interested in bringing him to the Emirates.
Premier League rivals Sunderland are also looking to sign Butland and have been linked to a £1m January move for the 18-year-old who recently signed a new four-year deal tying him to Birmingham until 2015.
Wenger sees Szczesny as the Gunners’ long-term first-choice goalkeeper but Manuel Almunia, Vito Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski all look likely to leave the club, which means the Frenchman may have to consider a move for the young shot-stopper.
