Arsenal on alert as Barcelona defender contract talks stall

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal could make a shock switch to Arsenal if he cannot sort out contract details with his club, according to The Metro.

Abidal recovered from a liver tumour last season and was supported heavily by the Champions League holders, but the 32 year old believes he has merited a better deal. Abidal’s contract expires at the end of the season. Arsenal are interested in the left back and the Spanish press have suggested that Abidal’s future lies in England with either the Gunners or Premier League champions Manchester United. The Frenchman’s agent, David Venditelli, has expressed gratitude for what Barca did for Abidal, but believes the deal on the table is not good enough.

Venditelli said: ‘We want a permanent contract without variables. Although they have behaved exceptionally with us, we are entitled to have our desires on the new contract. We have a very good relationship with the club, but we have not yet found the solution’.
