Chelsea internationals Petr Cech and Raul Meireles helped their side to good positions in their Euro 2012 qualification play-off first legs, chelseafc.com reports.
Cech took his place between the sticks for the Czech Republic against Montenegro and despite a broken nose suffered in last weekend’s fixture with Blackburn, the goalkeeper made some great saves to keep a clean sheet whilst his side went and won 2-0 away in Montenegro. Meireles was replaced with ten minutes to go, but helped Portugal to a 0-0 draw away against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The return leg is in Lisbon on Tuesday and the Chelsea midfielder is confident that his side can produce a positive result. The other Chelsea international was French midfielder Florent Malouda, but he remained on the bench in France’s 1-0 win over the USA in Paris.
