Cech says Chelsea players have let Villas-Boas down

Petr Cech says the Chelsea players have let Andre Villas-Boas down, adding that they, and not the manager, are to blame for the club’s poor start to the season, according to Metro.

The Blues are currently fifth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City and in danger of failing to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

Villas-Boas has come in for criticism for poor recent results, including successive home league defeats for the first time since 2002, but Cech says the blame lies with the players.

“The manager is not on the pitch, we are on the pitch and we are making mistakes,” said the Czech goalkeeper. “He cannot do anything about individual mistakes while he is standing by the bench. The players are to blame and we know it and we try to make things happen and change. It’s not easy but we keep going.”
