Cech to miss play-off with Montenegro

Chelsea stopper Petr Cech may not be ready for his country’s first leg of their play-off tie against Montenegro.

Cech suffered a fractured skull in 2006 following a collision with then Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt and has worn a headguard as protection ever since. The ill-fortuned goalkeeper may appear in a specially-designed mask to protect his nose that was broken in Chelsea’s gritty 1-0 victory over Blackburn.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Cech spoke of his chances of featuring on Friday, he revealed: “If the game was today I would not be able to play. The mask will protect me from further injury but if I will be 100 percent I do not know. And in the playoffs you have to give 100 percent.”

Czech coach Michal Bilek is sweating on the availability of his number one and stated: “I hope he will be ready; his presence on the pitch is very important for us because he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
